The T2s Overlay feature allows the display of a graphic element in the live Focus mode. This important feature increases speed and accuracy when framing images that have special considerations like the fit of the image in a layout or the repeatability of the placement of objects in successive images.
Overlay displays a small (file size) image, displayed opaquely with the blue range color (you cannot see through the blue overlay color).
This Overlay image can come from a variety of sources but must be made from a grayscale image. Start with one of the following:
- A grayscale capture. Use the displayed image to create the Overlay mask; Setup>Overlay, adjust the sliders, choose OK (select Save if youll use the mask more than once.)
- A live focus Freeze image. Place the T2 in Focus mode, frame the monitor display to include the area you want to mask and choose Freeze. Use the displayed image to create the Overlay mask; Setup>Overlay, adjust the sliders. Choose OK (Save the mask if youll use it more than once).
- A color tiff, shot on the T2 or converted from: File>Open, then pull down from View>Luminance, to display a grayscale image. Pull down under Setup>Overlay, adjust the sliders and choose OK. Save the mask if youll use it again.
- A page in a page composition program (Quark for example) thats saved as an EPS, opened in Photoshop, scaled to 6.71 inches @ 72 dpi along the longest dimension, and saved as a tiff for opening in Photoshoot software (again, View> Luminance to view the grayscale image, choose Overlay from the Setup menu, adjust the sliders and choose OK. Choose to Save the mask if youll use the mask more than once).
Convert the grayscale tiff file to an overlay by choosing Setup>Overlay and adjusting the sliders until the image forms an appropriate mask for display. Use the Reverse button to change clear to blue and blue to clear. Youll rapidly be able to choose the proper transparency to focus through using the slider adjustment. If you think youll use the mask more than once, Name and Save this Overlay mask into a folder (call it Overlay Masks) in the root of the Photoshoot folder.
